Our Purpose

Fabelo Incorporated is a not for profit incorporated entity that exists to auspice and support the work we do with Prom Recitals and Fishy Stories (formerly the Fish Creek Children’s Literature Day). Fabelo provides the governance and oversight for funding our projects.

Our Vision

We aim to make Fabelo and the projects we create through Prom Recitals and Fishy Stories a major contributor to the cultural and artistic community of South Gippsland. We want to be able to enrich the lives of our local community and the many visitors who travel here by presenting wonderful events that stimulate, inspire, and educate.

Our History

The idea for Fabelo came from a recognition that there is a wonderfully diverse community in South Gippsland, and that collectively, we don’t have the access to classical music and literary events that we deserve! Fabelo was envisioned as an organisation that can provide the governance and oversight as well as the necessary drivers for small groups of volunteers to present the classical music recitals and literary events that they’d like to see and hear in Prom Country. The pay off is that we know these events will enhance our lives and wellbeing and that our community will benefit socially and economically.

A group of local South Gippslandians with this common interest came together in 2020 and Fabelo was born. We searched for a simple word that would reflect our vision and settled on Fabelo, an Esperanto word, that translates to English to mean ‘a fabulous story’.

Under Fabelo’s guidance, Prom Recitals was established in 2021, it has been actively programming and presenting classical ensemble music in 2021, Covid permitting and the 2022 programming is well advanced. Prom Recitals also has a plan to develop our engagement with young people in Prom Country and to seek out ways of creating opportunities for young people to access the young and emerging professional musicians from Melbourne who we get to travel here to play.

Fishy Stories builds upon the original Fish Creek Children’s Literature Day which ran in 2019 and 2021.  Fishy Stories 2022 is envisaged as a festival of children’s stories, with the central purpose to create a better world for children through engaging with the wonder and the power of storytelling.
