About David

David Lawrence’s biggest disappointment at school was that a dog never ate his homework … even after he smeared it with mince steak.

After finishing school, he fell in with a bad crowd and ended up becoming a Financial Analyst.

He somehow went from profit and loss statements to stand-up comedy, before penning ‘Anna Flowers’ with Australian netballer Eloise Southby in 2007.

Since then he has written the ‘Fox Swift’ series with Hawk star Cyril Rioli, the ‘Ball Stars’ basketball series, and the ‘Maxi the Lifeguard’ series with Trent ‘Maxi’ Maxwell.

The ‘Stormy Protest’ from the ‘Maxi the Lifeguard’ series, won the 2019 Environmental Award for Children’s Literature.

His latest book ‘Ruby and the Pen’ is the first in a new series about a mystical pen that falls into the hands of troubled children.  They quickly discover that whatever they draw with the pen… happens.

David is a firm believer that all kids should have access to books, and is a proud Ambassador for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

He also likes sponge cake.
